Tamar Clean Sheets for John Reeves and Duncan Stephens

The restart on New Langleys decided the trial

Duncan Stephens successfully restarting on New Langleys under the eagle eye of Launceston Vice Chair Andrew Rippon

Launceston and North Cornwall Motor club had a strong entry for this years Tamar. It was especially good to see seven outfits to take the start at The Proper Ansome Cafe in Launceston. They were rewarded by a closely fought trial in the muddy conditions.

John Reeves was best Solo with a clean sheet. Matt Tilley came second after dropping five marks between the two wheels only Harts section and Kings Langleys.

Steve Urell and Julie Williams had a narrow outfit win, just one mark better than Andy and Kayleigh Seward.

The car classes were a battle between Class Eight and Matt Facey in his Class Three BBMW E30. Matt dropped his four marks early in the trial and it was three Class Eights who arrived at New Langleys, the penultimate section, with clean sheets.

Neither Roger Hancock or Tom Jones got off the restart, picking up four marks but Duncan Stephens was successful to finish with a clean sheet and win the trial.

Good Weather on the Edinburgh

Well the spirit never got to me with enough energy to finish this report. Maybe I will come back and add some stuff who knows

WIt’s just past 3am and the tail enders are finally leaving the Duke of York Start. Kelly Coley captures Andy Whittall from the Isle of Wight about to embark on his first trial in his Smart 451.

Non Starters – Dean and Jack drama Nigel Jones

Triple contenders – Bike Mark Wills

Cars – Steve Hill, Karen Warren, Bob Blackman, Paul Merson

Start lucky it was not wet no shelter. Parking if wet?

Karen Warren got away from the restart but didn’t have enough momentum to get over the rocky steps that followed and spun to a halt.

Booth Farm

Simon Knight captures Sam Pellowe cleaning Booth Farm driving his Class 7 Dellow Mk1 on his first trial. The Edinburgh wasn’t a good trial for Dellows. Sams Dad Tim retired with transmission problems as did Steve Strutt in Class 2. John Wheelers fuel pump failed before the start and Andrew Isherwood went off piste early in the trial and couldn’t continue. This left Sam and Mike Pearson in his Replica Mk2 as the only Dellow finishers.

Despite the threatening sky Booth Farm was dry and with nobody having to restart was.easily cleanable this year, only giving trouble to a few later numbers as the track cut up.

Taw and Torridge wins for Andrew Rippon, George Godkin and Steve Urell

Tough event for Class Eight with a lot of restarts

The Taw and Torridge had a strong outfit entry. Here Vince Feeney pictures Richard Maddern storming Hembury Castle on his way to a First Class Award. Steve Urell and Julie Williams were the best Outfit. Click Here for more of Vinces work on Facebook

After taking a year off Holsworthy’s Taw and Torridge was back to resume the season after the summer break. There were some new faces in the organising team and some new sections but the start was still at its familiar Clovelly location.

It was nice to see a strong entry in Class D with six outfits taking the start. Andy Beveridge had the only “conventional” chair, the others having an Enduro style chassis.

Class eight dominated the car entry with fourteen of the 35 starters. A glance at the route card showed the specials were going to have a challenging day with a lot of restarts in store.

Although it was a dry day there was an awful lot of mud on Sewards Shimmy and after the bikes went through Rob Holdens BMW got well and truly stuck and couldn’t be extracted with manpower and the section had to be cancelled from the car results.

Windwhistles Bovey Down Trial was held in warm weather with the opportunity to tackle both Normans Hump and Clinton in the daytime.

Richard Kinver was best overall in his front engined Ford Special, dropping 10 points on the day. Roger Teagle was four marks behind in his rear engined UVA Fugitive.

James Gibson was third overall in the Goo Ford Special but came so close to an overall win, falling short by dropping 12 on the third section and penalised six on the first timed test. But for that he would have been on equal points with Richard Kinver and it would have come down to test times!

Late Finish for 100th Lands End

The event attracted a big entry, which together with the conditions, led it to finish well after the sun came down.

Its Dark as later numbers attempt Blue Hills 2 watched over by marshals who had little shelter from the wind and rain (Click here for Paul Wheatleys video of his climb)

The MCC wanted to make the 100th Lands End special and their efforts were rewarded with just over 400 entries plus 3o in the Class R all tarmac event. It was a different Lands End, with the route tuned to cope with more than a hundred extra competitors compared to recent times.

The early sections proved relatively easy, but Eddys Branch Line and Blue Hills took their toll as the event drew to a close.

Falcon Revive the March Hare Trial

Mark Hobbs came away with the only clean sheet in his Troll

The March Hare attracted an interesting and diverse entry. Star of the show was Dudley Sterry’s MG J2 in the hands of David Price

After several years absence Falcon Motor Club revived its March Hare Trial, moving it from the clubs home base in the Northern Home Counties to the Northern Cotswolds, the area where the club ran its Guy Fawkes Trial in the 60’s.

Clerk of the Course Dave Middleditch organised Falcons 75th Anniversary Trial in the area last year and the March Hare has been developed from that event. There were a few differences from most one day trials. The event included a lot of non-competitive green lanes and Gold, Silver or Bronze medals were awarded according to performance in class. Another difference was the start being some 40 miles from the finish, the 80 mile route winding its way down from the start at Porky’s Diner near Evesham to the finish at Egypt Mill, Nailsworth.

Launceston and North Cornwall Motor Club were back in Lew Woods for their 38th annual single venue Launceston Classic trial.

The day was mainly dry, but with all the recent rain it was a tussle against the mud. In these conditions became a Class Eight battle for the overall win.
