Two in a row for Jack Selwood in his DP Ford. Can he make it a hat trick on the Torbay?
Holsworthy Motor Club’s Chairmans Trial is now established in the ACTC Championship alongside their September Taw and Torridge event.
Starting at Holsworthy Cattle Market the route headed out towards the Hartland Peninsula, embracing Sutcombe, Hackmarsh and Cutliffe Lane, all well known from the Land s End.
Narrow wins for Tristan Barnicoat and David Haizelden
In the car classes ACTC Chair Dave Haizelden (Reliant Scimitar SS) fought of the class 8 challenge to win the Penhale Cup, just one mark better than Charlie Merson in his Ford Special.
Kracken constructor Lee Peck was third car and came so near to a win but dropped four after going the wrong way after the restart on Wembsworthy 3.
Special mention to Nick Deacon for the only car clean on Rat Trapper.

This years event was a round of the ACTC Championship for cars and motorcycles and attracted a good entry

The car classes were dominated by a Class Eight battle between Paul Merson in his familiar special, Duncan Stephens in his red top powered Sandrail and Aaron Haizelden, who has sold his familiar Scimitar SS, and moved to the specials class in what used to be known as the Deere Special, hence the colour.
With Stuart Bartlett in the passengers seat of his UVA Fugitive Duncan had a day long battle Keith Sanders in his Reliant Scimitar SS. At the end of the day these were the only cars with single digit scores, the win going to Duncan on six with Keith on nine.
Apart from Duncan and Keith the remainder of the entry attracted some high scores on what was reckoned to be a tough event with some very steep sections.
The motorcycles had a strong class X entry. Ian Thompson was the best Solo amongst the regular classes

Chairman’s 2019 One of my favourite trials of the year, with a good breakfast at the start and a great mixture of sections through out the day. Continue reading “Chairmans Trial”

Holsworthy Motor Clubs Chairmans Trophy Trial on 16 February 2019 was an ACTC round for Motorcycles. Guy Windsor was the best Solo with the only clean sheet of the event. Simon and Bekki Eddy were best motorcycle.
It was a tough trial for cars. Paul Merson and Dan Keat dominated in their Class Eight equipment with Paul coming out on top. There were some pretty high scores from the rest of the four wheel entry with only David Haizelden joining Paul and Dan under 20 marks.

Starting from Holsworthy Cattle Market, Holsworthy’s Chairmans Trial had a compact 55 mile route, incoporating woodland and farm tracks in addition to the well known classic Cutliffe Lane and other sections.
The event was an ACTC qualifier for motorcycles as was the Northern Trial in the Lake District the day before but only Kathy Martin had the stamina to tackle both!
The wet weather prior to the event meant both Holsworthy Motor club officials and the competitors were faced challenging conditions with the farmland and wooded sections being especially tricky.
There was quite a high retirement rate amongst the cars with nine of the 31 starters failing to finish. They included Martin Kessell with a broken diff in his Marlin and Sticker Martin in his newly acquired Liege.
Matt Facey put in a dominating performance with his BMW, dropping only 7 marks on his way to being best car overall. His nearest challenger was Paul Merson in Class Eight with 17.
Geoff Walker was best solo motorcycle. In the sidecars Bekki Eddy celebrated her return passengering Dad Simon by guiding him to victory in the class.
