There was a strong Class Eight Entry but Mark Seward and Patrick Keat had the lowest score of the day on their outfit.

Camel Vale Motor Club had a full entry for their popular, season ending Camel Classic. In line with club tradition the Index of Performance is used to calculate the overall results. So it was Matt Facey in his familiar E30 BMW who went home with the Dave Keat Trophy as overall car winner.
ACTC points are awarded on total scores rather than Index and the lowest car score of the day was achieved by Keelan Hancock in the family Buggy, heading a field of 23 Class Eight specials.
In the motorcycle classes Mark Seward and Patrick Keat only dropped four marks all day on their outfit to win the Wadham Stringer Trophy.
Solo winner was John Reeves, the only motorcycle to clean the penultimate section, Hellings. This ensured his win over Mark Courtney who dropped ten here. This topped off a successful season for John, assuring him as winner of the ACTC Pouncey League for solo motorcycles.
This years Allen will be rememberd for the rain that fell all day and the many flooded roads.
No soon had competitors arrived at the start than it was time to put on the wet weather gear.
It started raining as competitors started to leave The Bull at Hinton start and it didn’t let up all day. This didn’t affect the results to much as the sections on private land which would have turned into a mud pit weren’t available this year.
Consequently it was a low scoring event with only Guys Hill having a significant number of failures.
With the weather being so bad there aren’t to many photos of this years even but Jonathan Layzell did manage to capture Simon Clenmow on Burledge. Jonathans photo shows the river running down the section. This was the case on most of the hills.Continue reading “Allen Trial 2024 A win for Paul Merson”

Arnie Martin gives the thumbs up to photographer Vince Feeney. Forsaking his Escort Arnie was driving his Hollier Mountaineer in Class Eight and was instrumental in persuading Simon Groves to fix the driveshaft on his Troll when it snapped right at the point it fits in the diff.
Minehead Motor Club attracted a good four wheel entry for this years Exmoor Clouds Trial, although the motorcycle entry was a little disapointing.
Clerk of the Course Paul Merson presented a formidable challenge to Class Eight with restarts on almost every section. Even so Tom Jones came close to the win but had too give best to the ever dependable Matt Facey in the family E30 BMW.
Duncan Stephens was third overall in his UVA Fugitive and Dave Haizelden fourth with his familiar Reliant Scimitar SS1.
Andrew Leahy was best Solo and Martin Keswick best Outfit.

Launceston and North Cornwall Motor club had a strong entry for this years Tamar. It was especially good to see seven outfits to take the start at The Proper Ansome Cafe in Launceston. They were rewarded by a closely fought trial in the muddy conditions.
John Reeves was best Solo with a clean sheet. Matt Tilley came second after dropping five marks between the two wheels only Harts section and Kings Langleys.
Steve Urell and Julie Williams had a narrow outfit win, just one mark better than Andy and Kayleigh Seward.
The car classes were a battle between Class Eight and Matt Facey in his Class Three BBMW E30. Matt dropped his four marks early in the trial and it was three Class Eights who arrived at New Langleys, the penultimate section, with clean sheets.

Neither Roger Hancock or Tom Jones got off the restart, picking up four marks but Duncan Stephens was successful to finish with a clean sheet and win the trial.
Well the spirit never got to me with enough energy to finish this report. Maybe I will come back and add some stuff who knows
WIt’s just past 3am and the tail enders are finally leaving the Duke of York Start. Kelly Coley captures Andy Whittall from the Isle of Wight about to embark on his first trial in his Smart 451.

Karen Warren got away from the restart but didn’t have enough momentum to get over the rocky steps that followed and spun to a halt.

Booth Farm
Simon Knight captures Sam Pellowe cleaning Booth Farm driving his Class 7 Dellow Mk1 on his first trial. The Edinburgh wasn’t a good trial for Dellows. Sams Dad Tim retired with transmission problems as did Steve Strutt in Class 2. John Wheelers fuel pump failed before the start and Andrew Isherwood went off piste early in the trial and couldn’t continue. This left Sam and Mike Pearson in his Replica Mk2 as the only Dellow finishers.
Despite the threatening sky Booth Farm was dry and with nobody having to restart was.easily cleanable this year, only giving trouble to a few later numbers as the track cut up.
Tough event for Class Eight with a lot of restarts
The Taw and Torridge had a strong outfit entry. Here Vince Feeney pictures Richard Maddern storming Hembury Castle on his way to a First Class Award. Steve Urell and Julie Williams were the best Outfit. Click Here for more of Vinces work on Facebook
After taking a year off Holsworthy’s Taw and Torridge was back to resume the season after the summer break. There were some new faces in the organising team and some new sections but the start was still at its familiar Clovelly location.
It was nice to see a strong entry in Class D with six outfits taking the start. Andy Beveridge had the only “conventional” chair, the others having an Enduro style chassis.
Class eight dominated the car entry with fourteen of the 35 starters. A glance at the route card showed the specials were going to have a challenging day with a lot of restarts in store.
Although it was a dry day there was an awful lot of mud on Sewards Shimmy and after the bikes went through Rob Holdens BMW got well and truly stuck and couldn’t be extracted with manpower and the section had to be cancelled from the car results.

Windwhistles Bovey Down Trial was held in warm weather with the opportunity to tackle both Normans Hump and Clinton in the daytime.
Richard Kinver was best overall in his front engined Ford Special, dropping 10 points on the day. Roger Teagle was four marks behind in his rear engined UVA Fugitive.
James Gibson was third overall in the Goo Ford Special but came so close to an overall win, falling short by dropping 12 on the third section and penalised six on the first timed test. But for that he would have been on equal points with Richard Kinver and it would have come down to test times!

The Pendennis Motorcycle and Light Car Club attracted its usual diverse entry for the Flora Trial. Off Road Bikes, Adventure Bikes, Outfits, Quads, Bikes on Enduro Tyres, Cars, no other Classic Trial has such variety.
