Ben Tonkin wins a well supported Tamar Trial

Ben Tonkin won Launceston’s Tamar Classic Trial on Sunday, returning in his 1600 VW Beetle with 2 year old son George passengering for the first time. It was a very close scoring day that saw the lead change multiple times on the last hill.

After the morning sections it looked as if Duncan Stephens was going to continue his run of ACTC wins having only dropped three at Lee Quarry.

Launceston Trial

Matt Facey was best car in his BMW. Ben Tonkin headed an excellent entry of nine sidecars

Matt started his day clearing the first six sections, establishing a lead he was to retain for the rest of the day in his Class 3 BMW. Matt finished the day dropping 22 points ahead of second place Ryan Tonkin on 41 in his Class 8 Buggy. Just behind were the battling class sevens of Adrian Booth (Arkley) and Philip Thomas (Melos), both on 43.
