You have stumbled on a delightful box of tricks, Classic Trials & other perverse stuff from Michael Leete. MCC ACTC and other trials. VW Beetles, Dellows, Marlins, or even Suzuki X90's
After the challenges of 2021’s Tarka Trial, I tried my best to make this years trial a more enjoyable event with a range of sections rideable even if the weather gods decided to drop copious amounts of rain on us. True to form it rained! Solidly for the best part of the morning in fact. The trial though, went smoothly without any sections becoming mud baths.
Charlie had the only clean sheet on what is now an ACTC Championship Event

Forty Four cars assembled at Froombridge Mill for the Mechanics Trial, round 11 of this years ACTC championship as clubs are now allowed two scoring rounds. There had been torrential rain overnight but this slowly cleared during the day.
Charlie Knifton came down from Derbyshire, cleaned every section and won the event in his rear engined, Subaru powered, Scorpion. Locals Joshua Moss (Cannon) and Mark Hobbs (Troll) both dropped marks in the wooded complex before Merves Swerve to complete the podium.

In the car classes ACTC Chair Dave Haizelden (Reliant Scimitar SS) fought of the class 8 challenge to win the Penhale Cup, just one mark better than Charlie Merson in his Ford Special.
Kracken constructor Lee Peck was third car and came so near to a win but dropped four after going the wrong way after the restart on Wembsworthy 3.
Special mention to Nick Deacon for the only car clean on Rat Trapper.

Charlie Merson was second and Jack Selwood third on a day dominated by lightweight front engined Class Eights
Dean Partington and Henry Hoggart returned Deans Falcon to the hills after thirty years and came away with the overall win.
Paul Merson and his team returned the Exmoor Clouds to the roads this year after a couple of years as a Covid imposed single venue event. They were rewarded by a full entry including no less than 20 Class Eight Cars.

A few years ago he had the opportunity to reacquire the Falcon, updating it a little before returning it to the hills.Continue reading “Dean Partington wins Exmoor Clouds in Historic Car”

This tribute to a remarkable lady gives a fascinating insight into motorsport after WW2
Mabel Edith Delf has died at the age of 105. She was born in Norwich, one of six siblings (three boys and three girls), but never liked her name, so from a very young age Mabel was known as Mibs and she became very secretive about her real name.
Mibs alongside Ted Cleghorn, her first husband, on the 1952 Exeter Trial 1
Her first husband was Ted Cleghorn and she and Ted were active members of the Sporting Car Club of Norfolk from the earliest days of the club. In the 1950s they were both committee members and their enthusiasm was undiminished through the 1960s and 70s until Ted died in 1974. Ted lost his right arm before the war in a lorry accident, but that didn’t stop him from competing in many trials and rallies, always in cars with manual gearboxes.
For their 120th anniversary the MCC laid on a three day summer trial, named after Dick Peachey, the clubs late long term chair.
There were 95 entrries starting at The Egypt Mill in Nailsworth. 86 attempting the off road sections and nine competing in the Classic Road Trial. Day 1 encompat sections familiar to Cotswold Clouds and Allen Trial competitors before reaching Exeter University for the first nights stop.
Day 2 sections were mainly in Devon with a brief venture into Cornwall before returning to Exeter University for the second night.
Day 3 returned to Nailsworth via more sections known to Cotswold Clouds and Allen Trial.
Clerk of the Course Dave Middeditch had arranged for drivers and passengers to swap roles at Launceston half way through the event.
Windwhistle Motor Clubs single venue event took place in the sunshine with plenty of grip available in the dry conditions.
The whole event took place within the confines of Bovey Down Woods, very familiar to Exeter Trial competitors who were able to see what Clinton and Normans Hump look like in daylight!
Clerk of the Course Nick Farmer provided 24 sections for the days sport, including two attempts at the familiar Exeter sections.
