Unfortunately this years ACTC Championship Status didn’t result in an increase in visitors to the Middle England Classic Vehicle Club’s event. Neverless it was enjoyed by those who did attend despite a sprinkling of snow too spice things up.
In the cars Dean Partington came one short of a clean sheet, followed by Stephen Kingstone in his Midget.

Fellside Auto Club arranged for the sun to shine on and around Wigton and Bassenthwaite Lake for their Northern Trial. Kathy Martin travelled up from the South West to dominate and win the Motorcycle category with the only clean sheet.

Mal Allen and Dean Partington take the Major Awards on well supported event

Bristol Motor Club and its well established organising team were rewarded by 66 entries for their Allen Trial.
This years event followed the Allens well established format, utilising as many public tracks as possible. It wasn’t that long ago that The Allen was an all public track event. However, the inevitable loss of access has necessitated a couple of excursions onto private land these days.
The Allen has a reputation as neither being particularly rough or tough. This coupled with the dry conditions resulted in 14 clean sheets.
Mal Allen took home The Allen Trophy with his Marlin after putting in the fastest times on the Special Tests. Mal and Dean Partington put in an identical performance on the Ubley Wood test but Mal was nearly a second quicker at Frys Bottom. Dean was awarded the Redcliffe Trophy for best clubman and was best in Class Eight. Continue reading “Allen Trial”

Both Motorcycle and Car Categories had low scores as the sections were bone dry and there was a lot of grip everywhere. John Kenny was best Motorcycle, besting the versatile Steve Kingston on his Class A machine as opposed to the familiar MG Midget. Dean Partington was best car.
The dry sections put a strain on transmissions, Clive Kalber (Tucker Peake Pop), Lee Peck (Dutton Melos) and Dave Haizelden (Reliant Scimitar) all having their machinery wilt under the strain.
Sword Point 1 took away a few car clean sheets with a restart for 7 & 8 and a deviation from the main track for all proving problematical.
Both Dean Partington (DP Wasp) and David Golightly (Morton and Brett) only dropped two marks, Dean on Sword Point 2 and David on Watergate 2. The overall win going to Dean on test times.
Dean Partington won the Cotswold Clouds on 5 February in his DP Wasp. Aaron Haizelden was 2nd overall in his Reliant Scimitar SS and everyone needs to watch out if he ever turns out in a Class 8 car.
Once again Stroud and DMC put on a well supported and hugely popular event which still retains many of its historic hills.
Competitors rated it a very tough, but not rough, event and there were some telephone number scores when the final results were published.
However, overall winner Dean Partington only lost marks on two hills in his Class 8 DP Wasp. The experienced Dean was chased home by two of the younger participants in the sport, Aaron Haizelden and Craig Allen, displaying their mastery of Clerk of the Course Carl Talbots difficult sections.
Dean Partington and Aaron Haizelden started the Camel Classic equal on 62 Wheelspin points apiece. Unfortunately Aarons trial ended on Helligan 2 with a blown engine.

Mike Ellis had the lowest score in his Beetle. However, Keith Sanders took the Premier Award as Camel Vale decide this on Index.
Aarons rival for the Wheelspin Championship, Dean Partington, was 5th overall after dropping 3 on Guys Hill. Tied on 62 points its down to the wire on The Camel Classic, the last event of the year.
Last year Buckler enthuiast Keith Thomas bounced Carl Talbot to a win in his Morris Trialsmaster. He had hoped to do the same this year with Carl in his new Buckler. Unfortunately the car wasn’t ready so Keith went into the forests to lend a hand with the event, notebook and camera in hand.
