Dave passed away yesterday following a heart attack. He was 77.
Dave was a well known driver in local trials in the Midlands and South East, passengered by his wife Audrey. He mostly drove rear engined cars. In recent years he campaigned his blue and white Imp but had also owned Skodas and the ex Mike Stephens VW 1302s. He will be sorely missed.
It was a Wasp one-two at Fellside AC’s Northern Trial on 21 February. Both Dean Partington and Mike Chatwin finished with five marks, victory going to Dean on test times.
As Myke Pocock would say it was a very clarty Northern Trial this year. The rain generated a lot of mud but it didn’t stop this being a low scoring trial with the leading competitors dropping very few marks.

The wet weather made this a tough trial
Dean dropped his only five marks on Pheasants Run, one better than fellow DP Wasp driver Mike Chatwin. These weren’t the lowest scores on this section but they both cleaned all the others. Deans success came when, along with Mike, Aaron Haizelden (Reliant Scimitar) and Nick Cleal (Peugeot), he was in the elite group that came out the top of Merves Swerve.
It was a very tough trial with the rain making Axe a real mud bath and Cowcombe Wood becoming so slippery the sections were cancelled as the access tracks were becoming dangerous.
Dan Keat won The Exmoor Trial with the only clean sheet. There were eight car competitors on zero at the start of Floyds Bank, the last section on the trial but the other seven all lost one mark making Dan the winner of the event.
Chris Lidstone was the best motorcycle overall with a zero score as were Steve Urell & June Williams on their combination in Class D.
