Minehead Motor Club restarted the season after the summer break and Clerk of the Course Paul Merson had worked hard to create some exacting sections in the inevitable dry conditions. He succeeded and there was a closely fought battle amongst the cars with Neal Vile and Paul Watson ending the trial on 17 points in Class 90 X90 and Class 7 Hillman Imp respectively.
Richard Dunning had the lowest Solo score, only dropping four. However as Richard was in Class X the overall award went to Andrew Leahy on his Class B2 Sherco X-Ride. Steve Urell and Julie Williams were best Outfit.
Ground clearance was an issue for live axle cars on some of the sections as can be seen in the Ski slope video so it was nice to see Andrew Martin do well in his Escort, winning Class 3 and finishing eighth overall.
One of the most impressive performance of the day went to Paul Watson in his substantially changed Imp.
Paul had lots of problems with the car when it was Beetle powered and this was its first outing with a Golf GTi motor. Paul had a day long Class 7 battle with Simon Oates in his Liege, coming out best by a single mark.
At the end of the day Paul was equal on marks with Neal Vile in his Suzuki X90, Neal getting the overall win on test times.
Class Eight was packed with Wheelspin contenders but they had the challenges of extra restarts and some deviations and only Tom Jones was able to break into the top ten and score points.
Josh Moss retired early in the event but stayed on to shoot some great videos and we are grateful for his permission to use them here.
