Ryan Eamer has achieved a unique feat, winning an ACTC round on both four and two wheels. Having won the Cotswold Clouds in his Cannon Ryan has followed this with wins on the last years Tarka and now the Exmoor Trial on his 350cc BSA B40.

More on the bike in a minute. Meanwhile Ryan tells us about his Exmoor.

Trial was really good, first group of 3 sections at Porte farm were a nice start to the trial, nice little Bike deviation on the 2nd one and a tricky little restart and the 3rd which caught a few out. I understand these got a little difficult once the cars arrived!

Loxhore Croft was a nice straight forward climb up the side of a field. Onto Stoodleigh Woods next where there were 5 sections. Stoodleigh rise was where I lost my first mark of the day, on a very tricky little deviation into the trees. Next was the first bike only section, this caught a few out with a nasty turn at the bottom.

We then headed off to Riverton which was a little rougher than I remembered compared to when I last did it in a car.

Nearly all the bikes cleaned this which was very good. Onto Holdridge woods next for 3 more section. These were extremely slippy but very good sections. The majority of the marks dropped by all the bike were on these 3 sections, I dropped a 2 on the 2nd section.

Then came High Bray, another very famous hill! All bikes had a restart here on the stoney steps. This caught several out! The rain then came for the last 4 sections which made things get even muddier!

The final section of the day was a nice climb up Beggars Roost.

The trial was a really good challenging day out. Sections were all spot on and route was perfect. The day wasn’t without its struggles as riding a British bike your always bound to encounter problems.

This was only my 2nd ever road trial, (Tarka being the first back last year) It was a brilliant day and I think fun was had by all.

Ryans Bike

Ryan on his BSA during the Tarka Trial, which he also won.

The BSA B40 was a unit construction OHV four stroke developed from the C15. They were produced from 1961 up to 1970 for the final machines destined for military use.

Ryans Bike is built around a very much standard Swan Neck Frame built by the late John Husband and known as a “Cotswold Bike”. There were only a handful of these made and was very trick back in the day when it was originally build. But compared to todays machines it’s pretty much standard!
