14 October 2006 – Ebworth Trial
Simon Groves won today’s Ebworth Classic Trial, despite having no less than five punctures! Passengered by Duncan Stephens, Simon dropped 28 points in his Escort. Rick Neale had the same score in his Melos but Simon had the better time on special tests. It was a wet underfoot and competitors had a tough time with tyre pressure limits. Several hit some of Ebworth’s many trees, including Simon who damaged the passengers side rear quarter and wrecked a wheel.
7 October 2006 – Edinburgh Trial
It was a good Edinburgh Trial. Nice weather, wonderful views and some good sections. It wasn’t all plain sailing though. Litton was at its magnificent best, changing minute by minute with the weather.
There was some criticism of roughness, especially Great Hucklow which was a real car breaker and Nicola Wainwright and Bill Rosten lost their triples there.

24 September – Exe Valley Trial – Ted Holloway Reports
Left Bexley Sunday 0200hrs, drove through storm on 303, Scuted, Cuppa and a wad Cleaned 1st section, bashed my gear link getting to next and had to do without reverse found a section with a pit of slurry which you had to go through hence the mud, (next year will creep it) Weather now like summer, cleaned more sections than my norm. Got up to restart box on Sims for a 7, failed special test due to no reverse. This was a serious event and I ended up 9 th in class eight.
Simon Groves 1st in his class. All in all I was very happy with a well run event. I don’t feel experienced to comment on others, I will leave that to your grape vine. The run back to Kent wasn’t too bad except that my fuel consumption went sky high and in spite of topping up I managed to run out before Clackets on the M25, good old Arthurs Autos came to the rescue. Having phoned my wife and told her I would be late etc.,I was greeted by A motor engineer and a Driving Instructor running out of petrol!!!!!! That’s going to take some living down.. I found the reason, My fresh air scoop to the Webber Downdraft had blocked off the first choke and so I was sucking fuel in instead of air. Now modified . Regards Ted

3 April 2006 – Ron Warren Retires

Ron Warren retired as Falcon’s President at the recent AGM, feeling that the time had come to stand aside for a younger man.
Now well into his 80’s Ron joined Falcon in 1950’s and exactly 50years ago in 1956 became Club secretary. A keen trialler Ron drove the Dellow Mk2 KTM191 in trials before moving to a 1500cc Anglia in the 60’s. In 1956 Ron became Secretary of the Meeting for Falcons Guy Fawkes Trial.
Ron’s involvement in Motor Sport was spread much wider than Falcon, being involved in the MCC for many years and is still a Vice-President. Ron was also a founder of the LCAMC and was its first secretary.
Over the years Ron has officiated as a Steward at all levels in the sport and his name can be found in The Blue Book as an honorary official.
Ron became President of Falcon in 1993 and has handed over the Presidential reigns to Alan Davis. Ron remains involved with Falcon as a Vice-President and plans to continue acting as a Falcon Steward.
Personally, I have two memories of Ron, both involving his Land Rover. One was of him towing Don MacIvers Mini out of the ditch we had fallen into when we went off the road on a Falcon Rally. The other was him towing his successors Escort all the way back to Hertforshire when Alan broke his Escorts diff on Nailsworth Ladder during a Guy Fawkes. No fuss, no comments, he just got on with the job of helping out.
Always a great lover of Le Mans, Ron was presented with a print of the race by Alan Davis https://classictrials.co.uk/2006/03/12/march-hare-trial/on behalf of the club.
