Classical Gas is an independent web site and is not affiliated to any of the clubs or organisers of the events featured. Words and Pictures by Michael unless attributed otherwise. Rough Guide

Please Note I am no longer updating this page. The Rough Guide Information can now be found on the Google Calendar on the Homepage. The simple reason is that is much quicker and easier to update. I will still update the Micro Sites for the individual events shown in the left hand menu bar. However, the information you require may be on this page for a while!- Michael 9th August 2007

Michael's, self-opinionated Classical Gas Rough Guide to what's on. I have added some categories to help newcomers to decide if you want to take part or not. At this stage the categories are mine, either from personal experience, reputation or in some cases from the organisers propaganda. Please let me know if you disagree with these ratings!

Exeter Trial - Bikes and Cars
I have reclassified the Exeter as 2 verging on 3 for roughness. You would stand a fair chance of damaging your Pride and Joy on these hills. However, you can compete in the MCC's class 0 with little fear of damaging your machine, but you miss the challenge of Normans Hump, Simms etc. All competitors can expect a very professionally organised trial under the stewardship of Tim Whellock

The first competitor is away at 8.31 on a 65 mile route on OS Map 180.  The organisers say "... a real mixture of sections which are non car and motorcycle breaking including the infamous Beggars Roost, High Bray and others enjoyed by competitors in previous years."  Further details from Mrs J. Hayward who is the Secretary of the Meeting

Cotswold Clouds - Cars - held in and around Stroud itself.
Starting at Gordon's (Stroud) Ltd Garage, Ebley Road, Stonehouse (MR 162/818048). First car starts at 8.30 on a 75 mile route with highs like the famous old sections Nailsworth Ladder and Crooked Mustard. The Stroud boys and girls lay on a great event, run in a very laid back but highly professional way. Drive, Passenger, Marshall or Spectate. But what ever you do make sure you don't miss it!

Rough

Tough

Please remember this is a relative term. You can't go Classic Trialling without some risk or damage to your machinery. I would advise you spectate, marshal or passenger on an event first!
This refers to how "competitive" the event is.
1. Suitable for cars with only basic preparation with little risk of damage providing you take care. No tree weaving or huge rocks between the ruts 1. Beginners stand a chance of getting up quite a few hills and getting past the 12 marker on all of them! Experts may clean the lot and find the sections a bit boring.
2. Halfway between 1 and 3! 2. Halfway between 1 and 3!
3. Well prepared cars only. Quite a high risk of damage, either from rocks underneath or from sliding into trees, either on the way up or when trying to reverse down. 3. Competitive for Experts. Beginners could fail to get to the first corner on many sections!
